Turn The Tide
With the rise in popularity of social media and the increased accessibility of information, most people are glaringly aware of the current economic and political state of the world and the fact that it is in a phase of complete disorder. Moreover, the more information we obtain, the more we realize we know nothing. The number of catastrophes that are occurring simultaneously, smothers anything resembling good news, and that makes it increasingly difficult to be hopeful. The loss of that hope is disastrous, as without hope, without seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, the effort to fix the world fizzles out. This loss of motivation is also caused by the overwhelming number of communities in shambles all around; from genocides, to poverty, to child marriage and many other issues, it is almost expected at this point to turn a blind eye and conform into an inactive member of society, not fixing anything, not contributing either. But is that actually being inactive?
Doing nothing is doing something; by deliberately ignoring these problems, we are complicit. So, what does one do in this situation? We cannot fix everything at once, and the news just keeps coming in waves. We must Turn the Tide, which is the theme for AsriyyaMUN’27. What that means is: we must use the momentum carried by these disasters to our advantage; use the outrage, the anger, the exposure to change the outcome, because right now, if things continue in the direction they are moving towards, the world is in for more struggling and greater decline. By trying to tackle one issue at a time, we can gradually change the direction these waves are going in; we can secure better futures and better lives for the whole world. Things have reached an extreme, and turning the tide reverses the course of events, from one extreme, to another.
